  • My Comic so far doesn't seem to have any dialogue....does that still make it a comic? All the words I have are like narration but I don't think I want her to speak either, such a silent character... but I hoped that the pictures really tell the story I am trying to explain.
  • Also, I don't want to read my comic for presentation. I don't know why but the thought of that makes me embarrassed. I think I am just gonna scan my pictures and the I'll bring the file on a jump drive to school and somehow upload them on the TV(not sure how I will do that...)Then everyone can look at the pictures while I talk about my project and if they can see the words then they can read it too themselves and if they can't see then... they'll just have to have the pictures tell the story. ^-^
I am having a problem finding the correct eyes for my character. I kept doodling different eyes but the dont seem to match the face that I envisioned for her in my head. I wanted like big wide eyes with long thick eyelashes on the side of the eyelid. also the feet are difficult i keep drawing them too small or too big. Can't wait too see how this comes out....
okay so thanks to manga tutorials I know how to outline my story, its gonna start from when my character was born to my education then how to get to Japan and the conclusion. I have decided that I dont want to name my character because I dont think its important to know, its her journey that is most important, to me at least. I didnt want to name her Shannan, after me, because she isnt exactly myself cuz I havent gone past 9th grade yet and I dont think I will do exactly what shes does, but shes more like a guideline for me of what i can do.

Manga Tutorials

I found this great website that helped me alot in the making of my comic its called http://www.mangatutorials.com/index.htm and it gives examples on how to make a good comic from the parts of the body, creating the story and the different paneling. I now realized how difficult it is to find the right panels to match your pictures flow. I will definitely have to practice this for my project next year.

I just bought a new manga called Othello. I like the way the artist draws people. I'm looking at how they organized each picture and how the pictures move from one scene to the next. I don't think its a very good story though because the story seems plotless and doesn't really tell any secret message. I will still use it for help because its well drawn and the pictures are well positioned.
For a Japanese Project I had to have a picture of my families so, i sketched a picture of my family to practice my drawing. I also found a news article online about the canidate for Prime minister of Japan talking about manga(comics) which I found very interesting. That showed that comics are not only for kids, but can be enjoyed by anyone of any age or social standing.

I have to find long paper to put my comic on and a small board to paste my quotes on. I think it will cost no more than $20. I'm gonna divide my comic into 8 squares. One for each important event in my life that has or will happen.

Today I went to Japan Club and now I feel more inspired to make my comic. I'm going to put my name in hiragana and english so, my project can show how I am influenced by the japanese culture. My personal project comic is going to show myself living in the future with my career with art and literature and showing myself in Japan.

Okay so I found some proverbs and now I'm going to explain what they mean to me. I still am not sure what I should draw for my comic, but I am looking through some of my favorite comic books to get ideas on what the comic will look like. I am practicing my drawing too, i realized that my peoples hands and feet look weird and too big.

I'm Stuck

Ok so, I know I want to make a short comic strip but I don't know what I should have in my comic. Should I make it about myself and what I like? Or what I what to be when I grow up? I already know a bunch of quotes that I like, but they don't all go together. I'm looking for specific quotes that explain how I think and feel.

In addition to my comic book, I want to take a small board and pin quotes and phrases that I think have a good meaning and are interesting to me. Maybe I will even draw a picture to go along with each quote.
"Imagination is more important than knowledge." -Albert Einstein
(I think this quote is very true)
I think for my mini-personal project I will make a short comic book because I love Japanese comics which are called manga. I love drawing and writing too, so making a comic is a good way to put the two together. I'm going to the art club tomorrow, so hopefully that will help improve my drawing a bit.

Area of Interaction Essay

My Area of Interaction, Homo Faber, connects with my IB career and dream of becoming an author and artist. I have always been interested in art since I was six years old, when I would try to draw the characters from my favorite cartoons. My mom would read with me every night when I was little and in first grade my teacher made the class write short stories. That's when I started getting interested in writing.
I like Homo Faber because its about creating something new and observing, questioning the world and how everything exists. I enjoy drawing people of different appearances with different outfits and hairstyles. I'm very interested in how each person on the planet lives an individual life. That is what I want to write about. I like writing about different characters and making a life that they all differently act and grow in. I hope to put my drawings and words together in a sort of comic book. Comic books are another thing I love, especially the Japanese comics called manga. I like the style of drawing in manga, when the characters have big expressive eyes.
I'm going to reach my IB career through learning in the classes I take. Right now, I'm taking Japanese class because I'm influenced by Japanese art and I'm curious about how the Japanese people live. I want my writing to someday be read by people internationally, so I have to make my writing appeal and understandable by the different audiences. I also will be reading many novels, which I can see the styles of many authors and their perspectives on many things. By reading I will learn good words and learn writing formats. In school I will have to write essays and reports which will help me practice and teach me to make my writing my own and unique. Next semester I will start art class where, I will learn different techniques to improve my drawing. I want to learn how to make people more life-like and create something completely new.

I saw this picture over the internet and it made me stop and think like "I wonder what she is dreaming about", "Maybe the different pictures reflect her thoughts". And I had to admire the artists talent. I love the use of all the colors and how they seem to blend together and connect. I also like how life-like the woman looks and the good shadowing. And the words 'You are a psyhic dreamer' made me think that shes dreaming of the future. I want to learn how to draw like this!

Hello!

This is my mini-personal project journal!!!
